Sports CSR

(Corporate Social Responsibility)

Akad Africa has the pleasure to coach Shotokan Karate at High School level as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility activities. Below are a sample of top Shotokan Karate Kata.

We are especially indebted to the late Sensei Michael Schollay, who faithfully taught us Shotoan at high school at great personal cost. He was the Kenya Shotokan Karate Association chief instructor, and passed on - on 23rd April 2003 while undergoing treatment at the West Middlesex Hospital, Isleworth in UK.

Sensei Schollay was born in Edinburgh Scotland on April 23, 1938, and is one of the pioneers of shotokan karate in Kenya. Among his contributions and achievements was the invitation of renowned Japanese international instructor, Sensei Kanazawa to conduct clinics in Kenya.

We welcome supporters of this sport to participate with us! Kindly contact us!

Brian Ngugi,
Captain, Lenana School Karate Club

Brian is a student at Lenana School, one of the top national schools in Kenya.  An active martial artist, Brian brought the Karate club back to life after losing its coach and majority of its members. Brian Ngugi has tenacity for what he is passionate about and what he wants to achieve. After a long struggle with the school administration and against all odds, he managed to get a Karate coach and a larger group of members returned propelling the club’s success. He is currently seeking collaborative training with Strathmore University, to gain more experience, participate in tournaments and have grading for the club.

An innovative and passionate leader, Brian heads the Junior achievement company program at Lenana School as the CEO / President. His passion for business and leadership has driven him to meet major corporate executives like Lenny Kivuthi, head of Safaricom Foundation, Dr. James Mwangi, CEO of Equity bank and Dr. J. Weche, CEO of Akad Education Group – Africa.

With an eye for the community he has co-founded an initiative called the Youth Leadership Convention which is centered at nurturing leadership potential among the youth through mentorship and community service projects. He also mentors in a program for primary school leavers in his hometown, Nanyuki, where he gives them an insight into teenage and high school life. He was awarded as the highest financial contributor in his school for the BTL (Bible Translation and Literacy) walk 2010 which helped to translate the bible into more than 12 other Kenyan languages.

Brian brings a unique perspective to his school environment inspiring others to step up to their maximum potential. His experiences have inspired him and others to “think globally and act locally”. His desire is to join the Africa Leadership Academy in Johannesburg, South Africa, and thereafter study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States of America.
