Why the Gap Year, post high school program?
PROBLEM: Youth at this stage suffer from these key problem areas;
Emotional Intelligence skills to successfully manage new & emerging post school challenges
Lack of intentional leadership skills development for self & community
“Work Ready” skills to enter the job market
Lack of Life-skills to truly knowing & understanding self after teenage
Real Entrepreneurial Mindset development for success
Strategic academics & career preparation as way forward for success
Strategic preparation for Admissions & Scholarships to top, world class universities e.g. Ivy League Schools (USA)
Youth totally unprepared for relationships, love & sex after school - hence early pregnancies!
Youth who loose faith after school; searching for the relevance & meaning (Isaiah 1:18)
There are few programs specifically designed to address the above for true success - because success in life is more than just academic grades.
Youth therefore lack knowledge & courage to confidently identify their core strengths; personal gifts, talents, skills and abilities – so as to best match these with relevant & available career opportunities - for making better informed academic & career choices in keeping with "God's will which is good, acceptable and perfect" (Romans 12:2).
Career decisions are historically made based on academic grades, college placement, guess-work, peer & parental pressure or media exposure and the lack thereof. Totally ignoring the individual’s inner and long term future options. We therefore "perish for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6)
Purely academic based examination systems are a poor measurement of a student’s retentive, analytical, moral and emotional intelligence – yet are the standard used in eliminating students when in competition for limited academic places. As a result, Life-skills needed to success are not instilled.
Change is a given; by definition, an effective leader is able to anticipate, strategize for, and enable themselves and organisations to proactively navigate change; managing, pioneering & leading change. This seminar introduces youth as potential future leaders to better understand, address, embrace, manage & lead change as a positive process in the pursuit of their lifetime vision, mission and goals.
